1336024 2013-04-09 08:24:00 Pfft!

THe real spin from Xtra recently was the BS that they are keeping their Yahoo Xtra email service because their customers actually want it!

What BS. To me having the email provision farmed out to whoever / whenever is the best reason to avoid Xtra. Like the Xtra MSN BS wasn't enough of a slap in the face?

Unfortunately lots of people use an xtra.co.nz domain for their business and don't know how to change (or believe it to be more difficult than it really is).

Sad really...

Their customers do want to stick with Yahoo despite the problems. Until recently, everyone used pop3 & only left at most a couple of mb of email on the server, so your xtra email being farmed out to a different provider didn't matter. Now lots of Xtra customers use webmail or IMAP so Xtra changing from Yahoo to another provider would be a major hassle.

If Telecom was smart enough to provide IMAP support through an Xtra subdomain then that would be true, but they didn't & now everything that supports IMAP uses imap.mail.yahoo.com for Xtra addresses & that will stop working if Xtra changes providers. It is only going to get worse as Windows 8 adoption increases.
