| 1335604 | 2013-04-05 13:56:00 | It's a "nice to have upgrade" but it only makes things happen a bit faster so not essential. However the talk of some being only as fast as regular hdd's is misleading. The difference between a conventional hard drive and any SSD is very noticeable but the difference between a fast and a slow SSD is actually very hard to notice without a benchmark. Case in point, I had an Intel 320 series 120Gb SSD as my main C: drive but I wanted more space so I upgraded to a Samsung 830 series 256Gb SSD. The Intel is only using a 3Gbps interface and the Samsung uses a 6Gbps one. Benchmark sites everywhere show the Samsung is much faster than the Intel but in day to day use you can not notice the difference between them. The seek time is key, windows loads a load of small files all the time particularly while booting so finding them faster adds up to a huge boost. Multiply the difference in seek time by how many files your PC accesses on boot and during operation and it's a fairly significant number. |

| 1335605 | 2013-04-05 19:49:00 | Most motherboards support SATA2 which runs at 3gbps anyways vs SATA3 which is 6gbps. There was no difference for me going from my OCZ Vertex 4 which is rated at up to 550MB/sec when I swapped from a motherboard that supports SATA2 to one that supports SATA3. I'd personally just make the leap and get one if I was you :D |
