1335326 2013-04-03 22:23:00 I realize how this sounds but it could be for another reason.

The Marae took over court duties because the court buildings are so badly damaged from the quake.
Barely a third of the complex is usable.

Absolutely, I doubt anyone would be thinking that the District Court was set up at the Marae just to accommodate these couple of Jerks surely. :D

1335328 2013-04-03 23:05:00 Whilst having a cuppa and reading the news on Stuff this morning I came across an article that I found amusing,

It is this one HERE (www.stuff.co.nz) that advises of the Court Case today for the accused in the Jessie Ryder assault case. Whilst it starts badly by advising the Ryder family were anxious over the hearing it turns out that it is the accused family that are anxious. That aside we get to:

"[edited], 37, and [edited], 20, will appear in the Christchurch District Court at the Nga Hau e Wha Marae today over the incident in Merivale last Thursday."

So the Christchurch District Court is now on a Marae. Well now, this raises all sorts of hilarious situations when one considers Marae Protocol v Court Protocol.

For instance, do the accused receive a traditional Welcome onto the Marae?
Is there a Kapa Haka party present?
Do they all get to Hongi?
Is there a fine selection of shoes at the door?
When the Court adjourns for lunch do they all stand around a Hangi out the back and toss down a few beers?

And on it goes, you add your bit.

If only Billy T James was still alive he’d have a field day with this one.

Additionally, the women would all have to sit at the back....

1335329 2013-04-03 23:14:00 The Herald has it right now.

The pair, aged 20 and 37 and both from Christchurch, appeared in the dock at Christchurch District Court at the post-earthquake temporary Nga Hau e Wha Marae venue.

And not speak

This could be worth adopting into Pakeha protocols

Not forgetting appropriate koha for the judge :badpc:

1335331 2013-04-04 02:30:00 How did you get the names they have name suppression. The surname does not feature on my database. prefect (6291)
1335332 2013-04-04 03:17:00 Their names are in the DomPost today. Their photos are surpressed. Pato (2463)
1335333 2013-04-04 03:43:00 Name's were leaked before name surpression granted. - LOGIC! Justice System has it!

Name and shame! When you commit a crime why should you be hidden from the public eye. (I only agree in cases where it protects the victum).

1335334 2013-04-04 04:56:00 I wonder how long it will take someone to remove the names in the first post.
