1357861 2013-10-25 01:22:00 So it appears Chorus is now wiring up xDSL master splitters to RJ45 wall jacks. (Someone has anyway.) As far as I know there isn't a wiring standard for this - is there a way to know what would be the correct cable to use with this type of setup?

Obviously one of these (www.pbtech.co.nz)then a BT to RJ11 cable can be used, but how do we know that it's all wired up right?

The other thing we can do is chop off the BT end of a 4 core BT-RJ11 cable, and whip a RJ-45 jack on the end, but again, how to we know what the correct wiring configuration should be? Thanks.

1357862 2013-10-25 01:59:00 You can plug RJ11s into RJ45 jacks, but it's not reccomended as it can bend the two outside pins of the RJ45 socket. You just use the two center pins.

Or buy an RJ11 to RJ45 cable here www.cablesdirect.co.nz

Some modem/routers actualy take an RJ45 in the xDSL port, Fritz!Box is one.

Don't do it!! As Alex says that will damage the RJ45. Ive seen too many sites where fones have had RJ11 plugs on them plugged into structured cable RJ45 jacks and when they have wanted to use them for LAN jacks they don't work.. Spend a dollar or two on the correct cable..
