1336140 2013-04-09 11:41:00 Is this (www.stuff.co.nz) another case of PC madness in New Zealand? Zippity (58)
1336141 2013-04-09 12:13:00 This country is a three ring circus. Cato (6936)
1336142 2013-04-09 19:12:00 I think he must have pleaded guilty to save a long court case. I am not a helicopter pilot but I doubt that a helicopter could hover out of ground effect at that altitude which must be around 9000ft. Maybe if he was very light it could.
I think it was as he said, he was flying past when the photographs were taken so it looked like he was hovering over the summit. If he was it was a stupid thing to do.

1336143 2013-04-09 20:03:00 I thought this quote was appropriate "When they get parking meters installed at the top of the mountain helicopter trips to the summit will probably be encouraged." The Error Guy (14052)
1336144 2013-04-09 20:38:00 What an absolute crock of hogwash.

Seriously, this country has become a dumping place for lunatics of the world.

And if that’s the best that DOC and the legal system can do then we would be better rid of both.

Somebody tell me it’s an elaborate hoax. :groan:

1336145 2013-04-09 20:57:00 Quite right too, to have the book thrown at this pilot.

Obviously few of you are outdoor types. There are already far, far too many "commercial concessions" for tourist flights and other commercial tourist activities in National Parks.

Planes and National Parks do not belong together except for SAR and other legitimate purposes.

1336146 2013-04-09 21:07:00 This country is a three ring circus. Ya got that right, 1 ring works while the other two are controlled by the govt and one of them is under debate as to ownership and a settlement cost before usage :D wainuitech (129)
1336147 2013-04-09 21:25:00 Tut you might be onto it

1336148 2013-04-09 21:51:00 Being an ex fixed wing pilot only and ex helicopter engineer I was always amazed at what helicopters got away with especially when flying low down valleys and over ridge lines. The law says you cant fly lower than 500ft above the ground unless coming into land, in distress in cloud or in a low flying area as part of training. I guess they have an exemption to hover to do work as well like under slinging stuff. Might be a wake up call for the helicopter operators to abide by the 500ft law.
As far as operating in a National Park I dont like the sound of them buzzing around when I am hunting one little bit and they should be banned from National Parks unless doing DOC work or SAR. A few years ago I was trout fishing in the Leslie and Karamea rivers . It takes a couple of days to walk in there when a helicopter came in and dropped off some fishermen. I thought the lazy ****s why dont they walk in and out like me. They stayed at the Bend hut with me but I wouldn't talk to them or give them the time of day. I can see why hunters and fisherman give helicopters an occasional pot shot.
So for once I am in the green camp get the noisy ******s out of National Parks.

1336149 2013-04-09 21:59:00 The helechopper is not in proportion to the hill, its to big, so its closer to the camera and not on the top at all IMO.

The judge should have fined him an extra $4 just to show how stupid she really is then it would have been a dollar a metre. Fined $3750 on a hill 3754m sounds like a joke to me. Stupid Judge and even more stupid bylaw.
