Lord Bell, her spokesman, said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning . A further statement will be made later . " Known as the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher governed Britain from 1979 to 1990 . She will go down in history not only as Britain's first female prime minister, but as the woman who transformed Britain's economy in addition to being a formidable rival on the international stage . Lady Thatcher was the only British prime minister to leave behind a set of ideas about the role of the state which other leaders and nations strove to copy and apply . Had to happen eventually I guess, but thats pretty sad . Best wishes to her family . I wonder if her funeral will be a big event . |

Mine is that most of what she did in office as P.M. was OTT and I reckon she caused more damage to the UK than Germany did in WW2. Our social and industrial structure has been damaged beyond repair. I admired her for her fortitude but she was misguided and stubborn beyond belief. May she rest in peace. |

| 1335951 | 2013-04-08 21:15:00 | Here's the Obituary from The Economist . Well worth a read especially for those yet to arrive on the scene . The lady who changed the world ( . economist . com/blogs/blighty/2013/04/margaret-thatcher?fsrc=nlw|newe|4-8-2013|5491313|37782475|AP" target="_blank">www . economist . com) Here's one of her strongest beliefs, a quotation from Abraham Lincoln: You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong . You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift . You cannot help the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer . We owe you for so much . Thank you and RIP . |
