219292 2004-03-01 08:12:00 i found out (curtosy of freshdiagnose- www.freshdevices.com) that i have usb1.1

is it worth getting a 52x cd writer, only to have it write at 4x

i really cannot be stuffed getting an internal one and pulling our computer to bits, and i plan to use it with our next computer when we get it, which will be a laptop, so it cant use a full sized cd writer

219294 2004-03-01 19:47:00 Something else to consider, pretty much all models of laptops these days have a built-in CDRW drive, so by the time you may come to purchase one, most likely it will already have a CDRW drive so there will be no need for the external one.
And with the price difference from internal to external (over $100 last time I looked!) I'ed say go for the internal one. Plus you'll get 52x writing!
It's the difference of waiting about 18 mins or about 3-4 mins when writing a full 70min CD :)

219297 2004-03-02 03:26:00 I think megaman has seen the DSE special at $117. ;-) That gives a much better price difference. Graham L (2)
219298 2004-03-02 03:28:00 lol susan ;)

but if you read pcworld, they recommend having 2 optcal drives, cd writer and a dvd writer.

and i plan on getting teh $117 external one from dse

219299 2004-03-02 03:57:00 Why bother with separate CD and DVD writer drives?

I'd go for a plain old 32-52x CD drive plus a CD or DVD writer, both internal.
