It depends on where in NZ are going to be living, because there are different high-speed Internet options in different Areas

Like you can get cable in the low north island & south island & if you are going to be living in Auckland then you have Woosh(walker wireless)Wireless Internet & you have all the Jet Stream plans (there will be new Jet Stream plans out latter on in the year, hopefully before September)

That is just an example of what you can get here (do a search of Press F1 for more info), but northing as good as what you get in Japan :|

Hope this helps :) & enjoy your time her in NZ :)

Off Topic: This is a long shot, but are you by any chance over in Japan teaching english (i . e . the JET programme or similar)? Just curious, because I've been considering it myself . . .

Yes.. off the topic.. yes i am teaching english here. No not on the Jet program. We are with a private language school. Both my wife and I are here with our 2 daughters. Great place to live... but miss the greenery of NZ.

219632 2004-03-04 11:27:00 Whats the living costs over there? For apartment or house? PoWa (203)
219633 2004-03-04 16:34:00 A few years? We are spending 7 billion $ a year on them. How much do satellites cost? Octavian. (4897)
219634 2004-03-04 19:01:00 I'm in France - I have 1024k ADSL (download at 120 kbps average) and have unlimited bandwidth, I pay 25 euros (50 NZD) this is the norm here too. Installation and modem are always free (out of the 5 or so ISP's I've seen).

Quite frankly I find it impossible to put up with anything under 512k (uncapped) internet now days, and in most of the modern world, it's the norm.

I think New Zealand will come around, they're just a bit slow.

How much they cost (electronics.howstuffworks.com)

So yeah we could put a couple of them into orbit if a few things changed.

219637 2004-03-05 19:16:00 I'm just making a guess, but I'd suspect the language school provides an all-expenses-paid stay - apartment, food, transport etc. A friend of mine was offered a similar opportunity, but to go to Korea. somebody (208)

The programme I looked into - GEOS - paid 250,000 yen/month, estimated that the cost of the single-living apartment would be 50,000 yen/month. The flight to Japan would have to be paid by the employee, but a bonus on completionof contract would pay for the return flight home. Like so many of these programs, it seems great on paper, but until you get over there, you just don't know. And once you're over there, you're kind of committed to it... I'd be keen if I knew that my girlfriend and I could be placed in schools in the same town, so we could share accomodation... But they can't guarantee that... which is a shame...
