Reasons could be a: Needed cash in as flash and something had to go ... ie the high speed internet monthly price, therefore the modem wwas redundant b: They were USB adsl modems and ethernet routers are so much cheaper these days than in the past, for a better connection overall (and sharing capabilities). As for the RAM, they didn't have a box full of speakers next to the RAM too did they? lol J :D |

I don't about Tokyo, but the quality of meats available in NZ supermarkets are all 'close to junk' although we are one of the biggest producer of beef and lamb. Good and quality meats are all exported. Poor New Zealanders! |

| 219622 | 2004-03-02 22:57:00 | Yeah that'd be part of it. I'd guess they are running a brand of dsl with shorter range and higher throughput... obviously not suited to NZ. Maybe when adsl2 comes out it will help a little, but not to the speeds hes quoting at all. On the other hand... Australia has MUCH better DSL pricing/speed/variety than us - and it has much greater distance issues/population density issues (I'm from Melbourne... houses in the burbs are much more spaced, big blocks, etc). So you can't expect what they get in japan because of technological limits - but you CAN expect much better than we get - its just a lack of competition that leaves us behind the rest of the world. |

| 219624 | 2004-03-02 23:31:00 | The distance/density still only applies to the major centers, Im sure its more viable to run a feed into suburban Melbourne and its couple million potential customers then to run a feed thru the whop whops into Wanganui with its total population of 25 thousand. That said, there is no excuse for telecom rates. |

| 219625 | 2004-03-03 05:03:00 | Hahah yup true, true... though the prices out in the whops in Gippsland/tassie/etc are all cheap too (they used to distribute the cost by having metro/regional 1/regional 2 area rates - I can't see it being applied much anymore - see bc.whirlpool.net.au). | daskip (5243) | ||

Hehehe... not ALL are exported -my dad is pretty high up at the local meat works, and lets just say, he ocasionally gets to "sample" some meat! As for the internet - i'm restricted to 30kps max dial up, or ihug satilite where i live - i just can't wait till i finsih school... o - smells like we having steak tonight :p |

| 219627 | 2004-03-03 09:52:00 | Is it true it costs like twice as much just to get 56k over there, rather than broadband? What do you download for your 26mb/s? Are there servers around that supply pron, warez and mp3s at that speed? PoWa> yes it is true . Dial up costs close to double ADSL . ISDN is also extreme here . Over $120 nz And what do I download? mmm well . . . . movies, Games, Music Videos etc . . . Sorry no porn . . . . :p |

Everyone is scared at the moment due to BSE... Many resturants taking it off the menu... And if ya want chicken?? well you might catch a cold with that stuff... Yes steak is expensive... about $70 upwards for a average to good meal. |
