220054 2004-03-03 21:57:00 I am trying to format C: drive on a PC running Win 2K to reinstall the OS
When I type the 'format C:' command it comes back with: 'Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first.'
Can any one point me in the next direction????

220055 2004-03-03 22:19:00 No need to format. Just boot off the Win2k CD as normal and during the install process it will give you the option to format the C: CYaBro (73)
220056 2004-03-03 22:24:00 format /?
and have a look and see if you can force a dismount....

but no need... as CYaBro said is the easy way... no need to make thinks hard...

220058 2004-03-04 00:11:00 You can also refresh you 2k installation to some extent by booting to your CD and choosing repair or reinstall over the top without the format. That way you don't have to reload the lot. Depends whats wrong with your current OS as to how major the fix will be.

Why do you want to reinstall?
