| 220369 | 2004-03-06 01:32:00 | I want a good (hopefully cheap) inkjet photo printer to replace my obsolete Epson Stylus 670. New products are coming on all the time, especially from Canon, so I think older threads on this general topic may be incomplete. After some Google research Ive been considering: Canon i560 or i865 Epson Stylus C83 or C84 HP Photosmart 7960 It seems that (a) Canon is fastest, but its inks may smear even when seemingly dry, and Canon only considers they will last non-fade for 25 years under ideal conditions (although I understand Canon may have 100+yr inks in the pipline, but when will they appear?) Epson and HP currently seem to think their inks are good for 75+years. (b) The ink costs of HP seem significantly higher than the other two, and this can add up to a lot over time. But Epson has also in the past required replacement of (say) 3 colours even if only one has run out. But I think Epsons 6-ink models may have grown out of this. Or have they? My main aims are photo print quality, lastability and cost in that order. Speed of printing and the ability to print direct from most digital cameras arent that important So Im rather leaning towards the Epson C84 but any advice greatly welcomed. |

I like the i865 personally and love being able to print direct on CD instead of making up labels etc. They are fast which another plus in my book and the print quality is awesome. 25 years colour fastness is not too bad........hell if they are starting to fade in 25 years I'll print some more.......if print is still available or even used in that time lol. |
