220198 2004-03-05 01:46:00 I have an AMD 2200xp+ cpu on an ECS(yeah yeah)motherboard currently has installed 512m of PC2700 DDR,does anyone know for sure if PC3200 DDR is backwards compatible like earlier ram types(ie PC100,PC133 etc)???. FSB is 266mhz. Bigballz (5350)
220199 2004-03-05 02:25:00 Hey Bigballz,

You may need to trial it to see if this works. AMD CPUs are not like Intel where Intel would probably work mixing those types of RAM, AMD seems it doesn't like this.

The performance would mean PC3200 will be running underclocked, so unless there's a reason why to get PC3200, you would be better staying with PC2700, or replacing all RAM with PC3200, check motherboard manual for information on the RAM you can run.

It has worked with some of the systems I've built mixing RAM with those two with AMD CPU, as I said trial and error is the best thing to do. If it doesn't work, take the RAM back saying it's incompatible and see if you can get the same RAM you need at PC2700.
