220712 2004-03-07 04:37:00 I don't think Orcon have shoddy support outside office hours.

I once emailed them with a problem on a Saturday morning and exchanged several emails with a support personnel their in order to change something. That level of service (ie, weekend) to customers who don't even pay them (ie, me, because I am a user of their free email accounts) is better than what Xtra could do, I reckon.

220713 2004-03-07 04:59:00 Xtra's prices include a $10 ISP charge on the 'telecom wholesale price', so for any comaprative plan they are $0.05 dearer than Orcon. :| wuppo (41)

Where do you get the extra $10 for Xtra? I dont see it anywhere, so would appreciate the link to the $10 .

If you make your toll calls with Telecom the price is as quoted by Xtra I believe . Thats inclusive of Xtra ISP charge, you don't "mix and match" between the "old" Jetstream charges and the "new" .

$39 . 95, $49 . 95 and $69 . 95 are the three new options as I see it .
No add on ISP charges on Xtra prices, they are built in .

As long as you make your phone calls with Telecom, else a $10 surcharge applies .

220715 2004-03-07 05:32:00 That all may be so, but we all have to keep in mind that this plan is almost certainly going to be p2p managed. so if you plan on doing any kind of file transfer whatsoever, don't bother with it. If you ask me the current 256k jetstream plans are much better value. Ashley Matthews (550)

Where did you get these "facts"?

Included in the $69.95 charge is Telecom charges and Xtra's ISP charges.

220718 2004-03-07 06:13:00 "GO HARD OUT!
The 10GB offering of JetStream Surf is Orcon's only plan which cannot accrue excess usage charges. This is great for those who want to go hard out without worrying about toppling over their usage limit. Once your 10GB is up, your download and upload speed is simply reduced to that of a dialup modem until your next monthly cycle kicks in."

This is from the Orcon site re the new plans, which says that after 10 gig of data transfer (both national and international) that the download and upload speed will drop to dial up modem speed.. i called Xtra and i was told the speed will be reduced to 128k. Dialup modem makes it sound like its reduced to 56k, but Xtra confirmed its reduced to 128k, NOT 56k.

Cheers :-)

How do you know this? I'd like a link or something, rather than rely on hearsay. ;)

Its unlikely they'll start port-shaping, they haven't done it with any other jetstream plans, why start now? If there is any port shaping it will be with maxnet or quicksilver.

I'm certainly not rushing into these new plans till some more respectable ISP's come up with a deal.
