2005-06-21 03:03:00 | Joe. Very good protection. However, I would still have a software firewall. This will stop an unknown software from launching and using a legimate protocol to send data back out. You may also want to consider ProcessGuard (www.diamondcs.com.au) which stops all unapproved programs from running in their tracks. Even the free version does this. TY for the info.. I went to Shield's Up! (http://grc.com/) and ran a port and firewall test there. I got a terrific report. All my ports were invisible and the one that wasn't, was shut. They told me I had a great system and that I should have no problems at all as they saw it.. I think having the dynamic IP addresses thru the router is what makes the difference. Even Leo Leport on KFI Radio 640, Los Angeles (leoville.tv) says that firewalls are not what they are supposed to be and that HE THINKS just the dynamic IP is good enuff.... What do you think? (now if only I can get Microsoft WORD fixed)

2005-06-21 03:25:00 | It is good you are secure from the outside. However, the more more dangerous attacks are from the inside. i.e. from accessing a webpage to reading an email to launching an attachment, installing a program, etc. I also run my internet access only as a standard user. i.e. not an administrator, which is the default access for a user on XP. You should create a user, called websurfer which is a standard user. This will protect yourwindows and windows\system directories. As to your word problem www.openoffice.org

In the last week or so there downloading there updates have been slow, not too sure what is up, I might e-mail then in a few weeks time if this does not solve it self. I would look elswhere.Downloads are happening as norm on my machine ie on 56k modem dialup less than 2 min at least once a day sometimes twice. Always in the bkground and just advised the dload has taken place. Cheers |

2005-06-21 06:33:00 | SurferJoe, make sure you're not getting their AV software mixed with their Anti-Spyware. BIG DIFFERENCE! I also agree, One Anti-Virus is enough :)

2005-06-21 08:41:00 | Today I ran AVG on a system that had an up to date install of Nortons on it, and removed 16 viruses that Nortons was happily co-inhabiting with. Dodgy.

2005-06-21 12:11:00 | I used to use AVG but recently changed to Avast. We had a comp that was playing up real good, in the end it wouldn't start. Disabled AVG, got it going, installed Avast & found half a dozen viruses, trojans ect. AVG didn't complain about them at all. I use Avast 4.6 Free, Windoctor, Regscrub XP, Crap Cleaner, No Adware, MS Antispyware, Adaware, Spybot, A Squared & Sygate Personal Firewall. Just to keep the thing going I used to use Zone Alarm, but found it made the system hang ect. Makes me wonder why I bother with Windows. Maybe because any hardware I buy works with it. I would love to use Linux all the time. But thats not a reality yet.

2005-06-21 20:24:00 | I would suggest you don't use NoAdware as it is not very efficient and can even cause more problems. This is what a review says. It is heavily advertised on the internet as an effective adware removal tool. Our tests indicate differently however. We uncovered a product that was unable to detect real adware on our computer, and instead tried to fool us with "false positives". Unfortunately, some of the adware programs it claimed to detect were actually operating system files and legitimate software.
