Generally speaking, laptop CPUs are made to use lower voltages, therefore creating less heat, but also creating less processing power. |

| 220434 | 2005-06-10 23:10:00 | the desktop needs to support the processor. i see there are a few deskstop pc's that are coming out with the pentium M processors. not a bad idea, exspecially for basic workstations. it keeps the power useage and heat down to a minimum. | tweak'e (69) | ||

At the end of the day, there is simply no point - unless you have a specific need for minimal power usage and quiet running. However, putting them in a regular desktop PC would give you a performance loss for no real reason... unless you really wanted to. |

| 220438 | 2005-06-11 02:40:00 | The main reason is probably just marketing. (And what consumers have been trained to want. A 386 will run Windows, handle email, and a browser. It will also run games, though not quite at the level of modern games ;)). With laptops, the battery life, and in the opposite direction, weight) are important factors. This depends on the CPU power consumption. A desktop is marketed on raw speed. When you are connected to Manapouri, and can keep the silicon from melting, the power used doesn't matter. |
