220967 2004-03-07 23:01:00 Hi.
I have just received a HP jornada 720 that hasn't been used for 1 yr.
I plug in the AC adapater - and no lights go, and i can't turn it on.
I purchased a new back up battery - but same thing.
The ac adpater and the jornada itself heat up - but the battery stays cold.
So i'm thinking - becuase it hasn't been charged for so long - tht its died.
Or is there something else that could be wrong?

Does anyone here own one? perhaps i could send them my battery - see if it works on there machine?

220968 2004-03-07 23:04:00 I just used an LED to test the battery - I put it into the connectors in the battery - one - one + and the LED glowed - so it still must be holding a charge, and I done the same with the jornada itself - I pluged in the ac adapter - and put the LED onot 2 of the connectors (where the battery goes) and the LED glowed.
So I guess this means the battery is fine - and that it’s the jornada itself aye?

220969 2004-03-07 23:09:00 Hi Fergie

Leds light up on very little power so those are not reliable tests. In fact, if full power was available the led would blow unless it had a suitable series resistor to limit the current. If I read your post correctly though, you tested the power supply as well so it sounds like your "power available" test was valid.

Cutting to the chase, AFAIK most laptops will work on mains without a battery fitted so it is quite possible that your Jornada is faulty.
