221177 2004-03-09 02:21:00 Got an IBM Thinkpad 6ooE here with a blank hdd, it has a cd drive but no floppy.
How do I install win98?
Can I burn a custom bootable win98 cd??
How do I get into the bios to change the boot order?
Thanks

221178 2004-03-09 02:28:00 The W98 CD should boot. :D

IBM often used F1 or F2 for BIOS setup.

221179 2004-03-09 02:34:00 I had an idea there was something different with those, so I had a look with Google. "thinkpad 600e bios setup" works. :D

The trick is to hold the F1 key down, turn on, keep F1 down until the Easy-Setup menu comes up.

221180 2004-03-09 08:33:00 Umm... just remembered my win 98 cd is only an upgrade from 95......
Anyhow have got into the bios and changed the boot order to boot from cd and it booted off an Ark Linux cd ok.
Is there a way to modify my 98 upgrade cd to make it bootable???
Cheers

221182 2004-03-09 08:49:00 I'm pretty sure that the windows 98 update cd should boot without any problem, and when it starts installing it will ask you to insert the previous win cd to confirm.

If that doesn't work I'm pretty sure you can use Nero to create a bootable Cd - you can also download a boot image which you can burn to cd.

221184 2004-03-09 10:20:00 Your upgrade CD is bootable. But during the install process, it will require you to put in a Win95 or win3.1 CD/floppy so that it knows you are entitled to install the upgrade version. Pheonix (280)
