| 221110 | 2004-03-08 10:04:00 | I have an HP 630C printer which has a Tricolour cartridge and a Black cartridge. The Black cartridge is extra, the printer will work with the colour one only, but will not work on the Black only. I only use the printer for Black printing and as I need a new Black cartridge (the element has burned out) I was wondering what would happen if I filled all 3 colour tanks with Black ink? The problem with printing black from the colour cartridge is that the ink consumption is uneven, thus reducing the effective capacity. |

The cartridge costs about 60% of the price of a printer :) The trouble that as soon as one colour runs low it stops working. I will ask the cartridge filling people about it. the HP cartridges cost a lot because the print head is part of them, unlike Canon & Epson were the tank is separate. |

Best to buy a Canon which will give you individual inktanks, and doesn't complain about printing B&W when colour tanks are low or empty . Epson also have separate tanks but the comments on PF1 about their printers are not very encouraging . I have just had a cartridge quote for my Canon S750 from Lasertec Imaging (http://www . lasertec . co . nz) in Hamilton for $15 . 70 (Blk) and $13 . 44 colour (incl gst) . Those prices make inkjet printing far more economical, and they are big tanks too! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
