221667 2004-03-11 00:20:00 Hi,
I am a little embarressed about asking this- as it proves I am a miserable old tightwad ;-)
For some years I have downloaded the "30 day trial" of this set of card games, I certainly do not intend buying the full version at --U S $30- odd. --and have had no trouble restarting from scratch each time.
Now after each download, and after clearing out all ( trash bin, even the register) details of PGS I now get reminded sic., "you have used 40 days of your 30 day trial and from now on various components will cease to work- please send for your registered version"
I have just re downloaded for the fifth time- and as usual of late it carrries on from day 40- with the correspnding loss of various assets - as warned.
I would have thought - if I cleaned out every last part of P G S that it would be as a viginal install- can any body assist in getting past this ( I assume there is a hidden file that blocks me and one I cannot see to remove it.

221668 2004-03-11 00:40:00 You could try easycleaner from toniarts and use the registry button to give it a good clean out. Download here (majorgeeks.com)

Another place for you to look that has games and looks like it is free here (www.fdepot.com).

BTW, if you get tempted to fiddle with easycleaner, DONT use the duplicates and unnecessary buttons, they can cause big troubles if you don't know EXACTLY what you are looking at. All others are quite safe to use.

221669 2004-03-11 01:47:00 Hi pheonix,
That is what I stated that I had done already - and several times at that- I am damn sure there is nothing that even remotely would let anybody know I had been using this game- what intrigues me is I have beeb re downloading for years- without the need to even consider elimating any reference to Pretty good solitaire, let alone having cleaned out everything
I will go into your program - it would be a folly to not do so, but unless it shows up more than the cleaner I already use- I would be surprised

221670 2004-03-11 01:58:00 Set your system date back 30 days and see what happens. It could be date driven or day-count driven.

If none of the other suggestions work you might need to manually find any registry entries and delete them.

Worst comes to worst, pay for it and live the rest of your life enjoying Pretty Good Solitaire free of nagging guilt that somewhere in the world a software writer's family is starving.

I can just hear his wife now: "I told you not to give up your job at Microsoft to write that stupid card game progam, now we are being evicted, the children have no clothes and I'm leaving you for that nice man down the road who sends spam for a living and makes a fortune.

Cheers

221672 2004-03-11 03:22:00 Hi-- yeah! yeah! - I know,- poor working people- now I am retired I bludge whatever I can- remember I am very senior citizen
:-(
I was using Jouni Vuoria v 4.3--reg cleaner.
howver I downloaded that one of yours and it has made no difference- I am using the 15 day trial and supposedly gained 69 mg of space- though I cannot see it when I look.
Wizecracks aside, it does seem odd that I cannot locate the ( apparently obvious tho hidden file) that tells mr good solitaire that I have been there before :-(
--- and if I had bought this h/d second hand ( which I had anyway- my predecessor has stopped me "trying"the program out for myself
;-)
Anyway, I once again deleted everything after trying your cleaner at that.- and it is still being bloody minded
I have many nationalities in my blood- four I think, and anyone of these has stubborness as a trait

221673 2004-03-11 04:24:00 Please may I poke my head around the door here & hijack Phoenix for a question...

I have EasyCleaner, but have only tried it a couple of times & not fully.

My last effort was when I was tired - & shouldn't have been fiddling with things in that state of course - but we never learn...

I fear I may have chosen the opposite of Phoenix's advice.
I remember being scared to touch the registry section (A No No for me so far) but probably assumed sections called Unecessary & Duplicates sounded safe enough.
Pheonix - what kind of problems have you experienced/heard of with these?
(Might as well get the bad news now - to be prepared.

221675 2004-03-11 06:03:00 Laura, tut tut. :D
It is just that it MAY cause problems. Sometimes windows has copies of some files, so that if the user deletes it or it gets damaged, it has good one to replace it with. Now if that is one of the files deleted....oh dear. See the problem?

BUT do not panic, there is that little red cross that is the "undo" button. If your not sure, just hit that and undo all.

221676 2004-03-11 06:07:00 Oh and , yes the registry button is quite safe. Shows the amount of "stuff" that accumulates in there.
I have used it on many PC's with various Windows, and have had no problems from "delete all" use in the registry button.
