221637 2004-03-10 22:06:00 With Telecom's new adsl plans, our family is going to shortly join the ranks of the broad-banded.

I currently have a network setup at home, and want to replace this with an ADSL router (XH1149 from DSE). My problem is that I want to start with the $39.95/mth plan, but need to keep track of who is using adsl the most.

The ADSL router can't do this for me, so I'm going to need some software - probably installed on each computer. I've thought of setting up a gateway pc, but that seems like too much work if I can just get some monitoring software.

I need to monitor Mb usage mainly - don't really care about monitoring sites, although this could be useful.

Any help is appreciated.

221639 2004-03-11 00:59:00 Bit of an overkill really - and I'm not using a client/server setup.

I can't seem to find anything - most will monitor time, but with ADSL this becomes redundant as the connection is always on.

Network traffic will only really be the ADSL router, so monitor traffic could be another way of doing it - although I'm not too sure how to translate "packets" into Mb's.

221640 2004-03-11 01:16:00 Hi Bill, try BME from bmeextreme.com It's freeware, will give you per session, daily and weekly usage with adsl. Appears to be very accurate, the only problem with freeware version is that it only keeps track of one user... ie all people using internet would have to log on as same user or you would have to check each user's sessions independently and add up the total.

I can recommend it, and it only costs $US20.
