221321 2004-03-09 22:49:00 Greetings,

Ive had one hell of a time with this lapto. Its for a friend of my employers, and it hadnt been patched at all. The owner contracted a Virus and asked we remove it and patch his system.

I ran AVG and it picked up around 350 instances of it. We moved the files to the vault and ended up having to re-install windows to replace the missing files.

There's still one instance of the little bugger left though. Ive disabled System Restore, so no problems there. Im in Safe Mode ATM (It couldnt move it to the vault, Im assuming because it was in use) but AVG isnt starting :-(

Any ideas on how to remove the lil bugger?

Cheers

221322 2004-03-09 23:08:00 depending on OS either use a boot disk and run a dos virus checker or simply pull the hardrive out and connect it to another pc. tweak'e (174)
221323 2004-03-09 23:21:00 Thanks, I'll try the AVG SOS Boot Disk.

Its a laptop though, so Im really not keen to yank out the HDD.

Aside from that, I dont have another PC/Laptop it could go into ;-)

Might have to put some Anti-Virus software on my Knoppix remaster :-D

Cheers

221327 2004-03-10 01:07:00 Try looking here (securityresponse.symantec.com)

sorry it doesn't seem too helpful unless you have a spare copy of Norton Anti Virus floating around

221329 2004-03-10 01:29:00 Thanks Tweak'e.

Seems that my Win98 Boot Disk doesnt like reading from NTFS drives...
I'll make another from WinXP and try again.....

I should really add Anti-Virus software to my Bootable Distro and burn it tomorrow if this doesnt work :-(
