221346 2004-03-09 23:06:00 After much rolling of eyes and gnashing of teeth, I finally managed to network two xp computers.

But I have no idea why I can't share the dsl connection.
All options are enabled for ICS in xp. But nothing happens.

Any ideas?

221347 2004-03-09 23:18:00 Are you using Static or DHCP'd IP's on the Client PC?

IIRC, Windows usually likes the Gateway and Primary DNS Server to be set to the ICS box (Which is likely 192.168.0.1). Then set the secondary DNS to something else, such as Xtra's Alient NS1 server (202.27.184.3).

Can you ping 210.48.100.45 from any of the clients? That IP resolves to pressf1.co.nz

Cheers

221348 2004-03-09 23:21:00 Have you disabled the firewalls? Run the Networking Wizard? Fire-and-Ice (3910)
221349 2004-03-10 00:00:00 I'm using a static ip address.

I can ping my internet host ip address from the client computer, but can't access the web via explorer.

Just tried pinging pressf1 server. No luck, all packets lost.

221350 2004-03-10 00:29:00 You have "managed to network" them. Can you share files between them?

Also, firewalls can stop some things happening -- even things you want to happen. :D

221351 2004-03-10 02:37:00 If you're using static IP addesses, have you set the DNS server and gateway to the PC's IP address that is sharing the connection? CYaBro (73)
221352 2004-03-10 02:44:00 Yes, I can share files between computers, and yes the DNS is set to the hosts IP address.

There is also an alarming slow down in my dsl connection.
I have read somethings about this, but have been unable to resolve it.

221353 2004-03-10 08:33:00 For any others with this problem, I have resolved it. (Although not a satisfactory result)

I was running Zonealarm on the host computer. This needs to be shutdown, and the XP firewall used instead. Then it works.

If someone can tell me how to make it all happen and keep Zonealarm running, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

221354 2004-03-10 08:39:00 you need ZA pro. most free firwalls don't support ICS. otherwise drop the sicurity level down to medium. tweak'e (174)
221355 2004-03-10 09:19:00 Kerio personal edition is free and supports ICS. Susan B (19)
