221997 2004-03-13 00:12:00 For some reason, Action Canelled boxes are appearing on webpages, can anyone suggest why this is occuring. Most pictures are there, like on xtra.co.nz beneath HELP a small box with a red X appears with Action Cancelled alongside.

IE6, winxp.

Thanks....John.

221998 2004-03-13 00:19:00 this is because the web vrowser cant find the file to go in that box.

this might be due to add blocking programs?

do you run kazza lite?

221999 2004-03-13 00:38:00 Well, yes I do, what does Kazza Lite have to do with this?

Im curious...

222000 2004-03-13 01:38:00 kazza lite comes with a host file...... did you install that?

the host file blocks many add servers and so give the "action cancelled" that you talk about.

222002 2005-01-27 04:00:00 just use a text editor like notpad and edit the host file so that the only line in it is....

127.0.0.1 localhost

then re-boot.

that should fix it.

222003 2005-01-27 04:20:00 thank you ever so much the site is working now.

so glad i found this site.

222004 2005-01-27 04:25:00 You can delete everything in the hosts file (not the . bak one) in this location:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

to what robsonde has said, ie leave only:

127 . 0 . 0 . 1 localhost

Be sure to click the drop down box and choose All Files when saving so that Windows doesn't add a . txt extension as the hosts file has no extension .

222005 2005-01-27 04:28:00 again thank you that seems to have fixed another problem i was having with transferring of pages i would get a message saying page not found and dns server problems but that seems to be gone also. jerseygirl64 (5394)
222006 2005-01-27 05:10:00 jerseygirl64.......

what is a bit of a worry is WHY any of those sites that where blocked by your host file would stop you accessing the site you wanted. none of the sites listed are ones you generally would want to go to. i suspect your proberly infected with somesort of spyware, as you where blocking it accessing its home site some web pages may not work correctly.

if i remeber correct you can select "use friendly error mesages" in IE optoins to cut out the messages.
