221774 2004-03-11 16:52:00 Hello
I have just been connected to Ultra(2 Days) as Jetstream is not available to me
It took longer to install than their allowed two hours but otherwise a reasonable service
After my barely 28k dialup the difference is amazing
I have had nothing but good service from Ihug helpdesk
However my XP system is now slightly unstable, there are obviously some issues to sort out at a later stage, but everything still works
At this early stage I am very pleased with it all but remain, from experience, slightly sceptical
And it is a bit dearer too, sadly

221775 2004-03-11 23:28:00 i think all new accounts are limited to 1mb/s which is a pain. its only highspeed one way due to having to use modem for uploading.

older pc's may not be supported (eg p1's).

certain spyware can cause the sat card to not work at all.

windows 98/me ICS dosn't work with it.

otherwise its a good setup and the only choice for highspeed net in most rural aeras.

221776 2004-03-12 09:23:00 I've been using Ultra for a couple of years now and have found it quite good, compared to internet service over our rural 'phone lines. At times have got blistering download speeds - up to 250 kbs/s, at other times down to 20 kb/s, but when you consider that the best I could ever get over wire was 5kb/s and generally 3 kb/s then it's a vast improvement. Win ICS does not work with it as it cannot bridge 3 network devices i.e. sat card, modem and network device, but I set up AnalogX proxy server which works extremely well to share an internet connection over a LAN.
Its actually an ideal option for rural areas as broadband is either not available or far too expensive.

221777 2004-03-12 10:41:00 So a router doesn't work with it? PoWa (203)
221778 2004-03-12 21:57:00 router ??

its not adsl and dosn't have a stand alone adsl router. ultra only comes as a pci card so you have to use some form of shareing from that pc.

221779 2004-03-16 23:42:00 I have been with Ihug in excess of 4 years
and during this time have been an Ultra customer for the last 2

Initally I was using the DBS service and found it so so ranging from 20k to 100k as it would be affected by things like weather conditions, glare and so forth and the original PCI card I had was HOT!!! I ended up having that card replaced by IHUG for a later model

The service from them(IHUG) has been exceptional

I am now on the terrestrial service and I am averaging 500k to 1000k all the time
