221710 2004-03-11 05:08:00 We just got a new Compaq nx9110 laptop for my sister the other day which runs with Windows XP Pro.

I want to connect it to the network to send her files across from her old PC.

When you go into Control Panel and to network properties (or something similar) the window freezes and 'not responding' comes up.

I havent experienced this sort of problem going into Control Panel before and was wondering if you dudes could help us out.

I rang up the dealer and they said do a virus scan, which we did with Norton 2004 with new updates, and it still freezes. Freezes both when the network cable is out and in the laptop.

They then reccomend that I format the PC myself and reload Windows, but I just wanted to know if there was an easier fix out there. Of course we will make them do the re-formatting if needed as we just got the brand new laptop on Tuesday!

Thanks alot for your time :)

221711 2004-03-11 05:12:00 I would be presenting back to the shop and asking for a replacment.

I doubt they would do so,but they should at least give the item immediate attention.

If not,i would raise a hell of a stink.

All i would sugest you do is disable any programs that are running on start up and then try,but i wouldnt put any more effort into it then that,Its their problem and its on them to put it right.

Hope you didnt buy it from a chainstore.

221712 2004-03-11 05:33:00 Yeah thats true, we bought the PC thinking it was reliable. Its from Portables Plus by the way :D, they are normally pretty good.

But the soonest dad can get it to them is Tuesday (he's out at work) so I guess we will have to wait until then.

Thanks man.
