221763 2004-03-11 10:07:00 PHP is a language that outputs html, when a web server responds to a request for a . php page . So the page you are served is not the actual . php page you request, but the resultant output of that page being processed by the server .

A php source page typically consists of both html and php statements .

This allows a requested page to be generated 'dynamically' according to the php constructs, allowing variable content etc . Obviously, a webserver has to offer php support for this to work .
