222148 2004-03-13 01:14:00 I hear 256k is nice. I would like to try it some day.

I've been on Jetstart with Xtra for the past 11 months and not had any problems. I decided to upgrade to the 10 gig 256/128 Flat rate plan on Monday. Calling Telecom, they said I would be connecting at 256k on Tuesday. Sadly, as far as I can tell, I'm still on 128k. I download at 15-16k/s, I get 40-70ms ping in Counterstrike and everything else is the same as it's been for the last 11 months. I connect to Xtra via a dial-up type connection in XP. I tried adding a Broadband connection, yet that doesn't seem to connect. It has in the settings to use encapsulation mode as PPPoE yet the DSE USB ADSL Modem I have says Telecom use PPPoATM. There are no other options as to what encapsulation mode to use in the broadband connection settings.

Also, checking my Xtra usage, I'm being charged for 256k as it says I have a 10 gig limit, and it records my total usage as opposed to previously where I had a 5 gig limit and it only recorded international usage.

So, am I doing something wrong? Do Telecom need to change a line of code at the exchange? Do Telecom just hate me? Please help, I would like my 256k connection soon.

222150 2004-03-13 02:11:00 I was told by Telecom that it wouldnt come into effect untill my new billing cycle.

I assume you would be the same?

222151 2004-03-13 02:45:00 Hmmm, that could be it... I'll give Telecom a call on Monday. Maian (5395)
222152 2004-03-13 04:09:00 Does xtra (as opposed to Telecom Jetstream) know you want to change? wotz (335)

Did anyone tell you that when you switch from Jetstream to one of the new 256K plans your login will need to change?

Remove the "a" from "adsl" so that your login is:

yourloginID@dsl.xtra.co.nz

This will not work unless, as wotz says, both Telecom and Xtra have both made the changes they need to do

Shouldn't that be changed to yourloginid.xadsl@xtra.co.nz?

Maian, once your billing cycle changes you can check your speed at:
www.jetstreamgames.co.nz/speed

Greg is most likely correct. I'm not with Xtra and don't need the "x" before the"adsl". I was passing on what I had to do the other day when I upgraded to Surf 3Gig.

As for changing "adsl" to "dsl", I could be wrong about that too, so check first with Telecoms' Jetstream Help Maian.

222156 2004-03-14 21:34:00 I rang up last night for the new plan and as our billing cycle doesn't end until the 10th of april the speed wouldn't increase till then .so now have decided to put it off until that date.
I can't see why they can't do it over night and just charge us for the extra on the next billing date

222157 2004-03-14 21:46:00 Telecom and Xtra can be very confusing. They are more confused internally between Telecom and Xtra than customers like you and me, I belief. Most of the time, they don't know what each other is doing or supposed to do, especially comes to accounts or/and management issues.

That's my personal experieces with Telecom & Xtra. How about you guys out there?
