222272 2004-03-13 10:04:00 Take:
One Knoppix CD

Boot

Open a Konsole
Type:
sudo bash
export DISPLAY=0:0
qtparted

This will allow you to re-partition.

I should really make a knoppix remaster for this purpose....

Chill.

222273 2004-03-14 01:15:00 Do a "thorough" scandisk, then a defrag. (Boot to Safe Mode first ;-)). That moves all the files to the "botttom" of the disk, so partitioners can work.

Either ranish or parted will non-destructively do the splitting. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Partitioning very easily becomes destructive, and the most common cause is overconfidence. Nothing is so easy that it doesn't need instructions. :D

Just make an "unallocated " area of a few GB. The Linux installer will make the partitions it wants. Don't worry about the fine details for your first installation.
