223207 2004-03-17 08:57:00 I have a computer which will not boot. Was working OK. Have tried using a rescue disk which tells me that the FAT or FAT32 is corrupted. Fdisk shows that there is not a DOS partition.
How do I establish the FAT without losing all the files?
Thanks

223208 2004-03-17 09:06:00 can you provide some information about the operating system (eg. windows xp) and file system you'r using (eg. fat32. ntfs) Jacob4165 (199)
223209 2004-03-17 09:08:00 If you really want the files off it (and there is no guarantee that they will be recoverable), there are some companies that specialise in data recovery at a low level. Do a search in your favourite search engine for "data recovery" or similar. Dolby Digital (160)

223211 2004-03-17 09:46:00 do i take it that fdisk shows that there is no partition?

if so does the drive show up correctly in the bios?

223213 2004-03-17 10:35:00 Drop the drive into another computer and use a program to try and do a raw recovery.

there is one available at www.download.com

223214 2004-03-17 10:45:00 Am trying to that now. Have downloaded a program GetDataBack.
Problems is the second computer recognizes the problem disk but freezes once windows is loaded.
Will post a messasge when all is going.
Thanks for all the help

223215 2004-03-18 05:54:00 You should really look at getting a program that will copy/recover the partitions from DOS. Booting into windows won't help things because it will detect the stuffed drive and not know what to do. PoWa (203)
