2013-10-31 01:11:00 | I have recently purchased a new laptop that has Win 8 installed. Today something happened and my desk top got changed. How do I go about using restore to make the correction please | Swampy (2426) | |
2013-10-31 02:30:00 | Refresh it / settings / change pc settings / recovery. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

If your not careful its easy to refresh your PC right back to the day it was installed, removing all data programs everything. (seen it happen several times) If you are referring to the old style system restore as per XP, Vista, W7 Go to the start screen, type System Restore Top right, click settings Option, you should have 3 options under the Settings results, Select Create a Restore Point, when the window opens there at the top of the box is the old system Restore. |

2013-10-31 20:56:00 | Thanks once again to you both. I could not get my previous desk top back again so will have to re-install all my apps and then create a restore point . Can I save a restore point or is there another way I can "back up" my desk top settings ? | Swampy (2426) | |
2013-10-31 21:44:00 | If you explain what you mean by "something happened and my desk top got changed" we might be able to help with that, rather than resorting to a restore. | Agent_24 (57) | |
2013-11-01 00:33:00 | I downloaded Cool Edit Pro and when I closed C.E.P.. All of my icons on the desk top had disappeared . The desk top screen was blank | Swampy (2426) | |
2013-11-02 00:40:00 | if you look in c:\Users\<username>\Desktop you also see no icons? | nmercer (3899) | |
2013-11-02 01:21:00 | If its just the desktop Icons gone, there may have been something install that screwed it. What you can try is download Rougekiller www.bleepingcomputer.com Click the dark blue button "Download from Authors site", run it. It wont actually install anything. It does a scan, then you agree to the elu, click scan top right, once finished it will show any suspect entries, files or infections. On the right is a list of options, you can click each one or just the "fix Shortcuts" it basically unhides / fixes any that have been effected by malware. Did one PC yesterday, brought back over 10 previously missing desktop shortcuts.
