| 1358171 | 2013-10-29 05:25:00 | Hi guys, I am quite new to Wordpress but have been going crazy trying to figure this one out so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am simply trying to change some margins on my twenty ten child theme but nothing I do seems to work, I have looked everywhere for help including youtube, wordpress forums and W3schools but nothing is working. I have certain pages that I have changed to the "one column, no side bar" option as they are just text but everything's quite squished in the middle of the page with big gaps on the left and right and I would like to change it so the text covers more area, ideally I would have used the twenty ten full width option that it has in the parent editor but this doesn't actually seem to exist and is not even an option under templates (I read a post where other people were saying that that feature seems to have oddly disappeared). So that only left me with the option of making the "one column, no side bar" margins bigger, so here's what I copied from the parent: } /* LAYOUT: One column, no sidebar DESCRIPTION: One centered column with no sidebar */ .one-column #content { margin: 0 auto; width: 640px; } I then changed it to this: } /* LAYOUT: One column, no sidebar DESCRIPTION: One centered column with no sidebar */ .one-column #content { margin: 0 auto; width: 800px; } but alas to no avail :groan: I thought this would have been quite simple but it seems to have become a big fat headache....can someone pleeease help me!!!!!:thanks |

C - Do you know how to use "Inspect Element" in your web browser? The reason I ask is that when you are making edits to your website, Inspect Element is the prefect tool for finding out which element of the style sheet you are effecting with the changes you are trying to make. I have done a bit of stuff with Wordpress templates but normally I prefer to build my own with HTML5 and CSS3 and then attach them to my Wordpress site. |
