1337210 2013-04-16 12:03:00 I read this article about jimi hendrix a few days ago (i think) , and it was about the jimi hendrix albums to start listening to.

i think it was on stuff.co.nz or may have been in the paper itself, but does anyone know the article/blog I'm talking about???

I've tried searching for it but have come up empty

TIA

1337213 2013-04-17 05:01:00 "Are You Experienced" was ranked by Rolling Stones as 15th greatest album of all-time kingdragonfly (309)
1337214 2013-04-17 05:32:00 Ah.. I know exactly what article you are talking about - read it myself... now I'm playing silly buggers with my own mind trying to remember where it was also.... Bozo (8540)

He only recordered/released 3 albums , all they others were after he died, often cobbled together from old tapes found in someones attic :-)
Dopnt bother with the Best Of comnpliation

Might have been some live albums released when he was alive ??

Get these 2 first
Are You Experienced (1967) : not the the best sounding recording compared to modern stuff (it was the 1960's), but has very good songs
Axis: Bold as Love (1967) : My favourite ,more of a jazz/rock feel , beter recording sound than Experienced. I think this one got the Jazz Record of the year from a Jazz magazine !!

Then this
Jimi Plays Monterey [live] : a very high energy feel. Its Full On.

Then this
Band of Gypsys [live] : could be his 'experimental' band. Doesnt have his usual drummer , & you can tell. More of a laid back funky sound. Get it just for Machine Gun

Lots of other Crap albums, put together after he died. Avoid unless youre really keen. (some are truely awefull)

1337218 2013-04-17 08:14:00 Personally I have fond memories of the double album Electric Ladyland. I seem to recall it was issued in a white box by Polydore at one point but maybe that was a later compilation. Whatever, still enjoy Jimi. :D Winston001 (3612)
1337219 2013-04-17 10:32:00 Read an article in the latest Uncut magazine about the Hendrix estate re-issues.
Someone reckoned you only need the first 4 albums, tend to agree, the rest appeals to completists.
