1337197 2013-04-16 07:53:00 I just did a minor upgrade for my phone - replaced the 1 gig chip for a 4 gig. It got me thinking though... given that the thing gets used a fair bit each and every day, how long d'ya reckon these things can last before they risk losing data or become useless? Greg (193)
1337198 2013-04-16 09:22:00 Be interesting because we have had a 32gb in a security camera running 24/7 for the last six months on a constant loop. coldfront (15814)
1337199 2013-04-16 22:33:00 I don't know, mines held out pretty well. Truth is those cards don't get much write action, it's mostly read, so I'd expect them to be fairly reliable. The Error Guy (14052)
1337200 2013-04-16 23:50:00 You should probably be more worried about the thing getting lost or stolen.

But how long does any storage media last? Given a decent backup solution it's not highly relevant.

Given the cost of the 32GB cards I guess you'd want it to last a while, although I don't keep any "important" info on my phone, far too easy to get lost/stolen/damaged.

Instant upload over WiFi for pics/video and everything else is pretty much expendable, unless someone is super happy to get their hands on my eclectic music tastes :D

And I'm not concerned here about any other media - just a micro SD card's reliability. And no, it's not highly relevant... just relevant. I ain't gonna twaddle around backing the thing up!

So its not relevant that a 32gb card used for six months constantly being recorded/erased on all day (and night) has lasted without a problem? How much use would a telephone sd card get?

1337204 2013-04-17 08:35:00 Well if a MicroSD can have all its sectors rewritten every day for 6 months (approx 170 writes per sector) I'm going to say you'll be fine. 170 doesn't sound like much, but it's plenty, especially for a phone SD card. They don't get much stuff written to them at all. The Error Guy (14052)
