2013-04-15 20:48:00 | This guy used to be IT Minister. www.radionz.co.nz Customs Minister Maurice Williamson says he is extremely worried about what 3D printers will do to border security. Mr Williamson says the printers are actually manufacturers of products and 3D computer files can be emailed or downloaded from the internet. He says household printers will soon be able to produce drugs and weapons, and the country's borders are extremely vulnerable. "If people could print off ... sheets of Ecstasy tablets at the party they're at at that time, that just completely takes away our border protection role in its known sense." Mr Williamson says the printers will become as common as PCs and he has asked his officials to think hard about how to keep up with this kind of technology. Copyright © 2013, Radio New Zealand

2013-04-15 21:09:00 | Currently 3D printers struggle to print a harmonica that can be played. If you could print drugs, why not also print high explosives? Color printer ink is currently $5,654/liter. If you could print drugs, why not print printer ink?

2013-04-15 21:12:00 | My 3d printer uses PLA I wouldn't want to try and fire a bullet with a gun made form that. However Resin printers are a whole different ball game but also cost at least 5 times as much at the moment | gary67 (56) | |
2013-04-16 00:07:00 | He (Maurice Williamson) was chosen for his ability to seamlessly blend in with the party intellectuals. | R2x1 (4628) | |

2013-04-16 04:05:00 | Well Ive just been distilling some Moonshine and the whole time I was thinking how much easier its going to be when I get my 3D Printer. Ill just sit at the keyboard, type in my order and out will come Gin Rum Whiskey you name it. What a machine. Maurice Williamson for President. And hell be announcing Perpetual Motion just before the next election I believe. ;)

2013-04-16 04:36:00 | Well, it will be technically possible for 3D printers to print drugs. Not in any timeframe that I would refer to as "soon" though. | pablo d (15490) | |
