1336596 2013-04-13 06:39:00 Who still has a hifi used for playing vinyl LPs and CDs? And do you still use it?

Mine is a Quad 33/303 form the 1970s with an Ariston turntable (almost identical to a Linn) playing through KEF Concerto speakers. It doesn't get used too often these days due to my hearing loss, probably caused by playing it too loud in the past! But I am going to give it all a bit of a birthday, and try listening with my hearing aids in. Should be interesting, but having to get up to change sides or records will be a bit of a pain now. I remember that I got into the bad habit of listening to the equipment rather than the music, cursing every hum, pop, whistle etc, and wondering if I had everything 'in phase'. So I will try to avoid that in future.

1336599 2013-04-13 09:15:00 No turntable but a Marantz CD4000 CD player (single disc), Rotel RA-921 amp and some kick ass Mission M75's (1 pair), the TV also plays through this as our el cheapo freebie tv has crap sound and it gets used almost everyday gary67 (56)
1336600 2013-04-13 23:26:00 Some of the brands mentioned invoke memories. I still regularly use my system, the core of which dates back to the 1980's. I have thought of upgrading occasionally but really the system still out preforms my ears. I have a Micro DD1 direct drive turntable, Sony CDP 307 ESD CD player, Harmon Kardon HK6500 amp and Castle Chester speakers augmented by a REL Strata 2 sub. tutaenui (1724)

If it makes you happy carry on.

Not all old people can adapt, that is nothing to be ashamed of.
