1336842 2013-04-18 10:44:00 Surprisingly no. I'm not super enthusiastic about homosexuality, but I can't see any real reason why in a non-religious world they shouldn't be married.

There were a number of amendments prior to the law being passed which protected NZ'ers and their ability to still openly and candidly discuss their views on same-sex marriages, which protects all of NZ'ers right to freedom of speech, amongst other things, and while I'm not sure how well the clauses will protect things like celebrants, ministers and churches who don't want to marry same-sex couples because it goes against their religious views (Which they're entitled to), I think the steps were made to indicate that was the "spirit" of the law, even if it wasn't the exact letter of it.

Good on them though, and I hope this promotes more tolerance and acceptance within our country. It would seem it is sorely needed...celebrants have been able to refuse for the last 50 years based on religion, and forced marriages. So nothing has changed there

Yes but initially the new law *was* going to change that.

1336845 2013-04-24 11:52:00 www.stuff.co.nz me see, your high moral code is against this as well.

And before you say it's not natural, think again

1336846 2013-04-24 13:36:00 As previously pointed out, doesn't the church already do this anyway? Agent_24 (57)
1336847 2013-04-24 18:43:00 I see France has just passed the same sex marriage law as NZ.

1336849 2013-04-24 20:48:00 They predicted that after passing gay marriage bill that polygamy would be next.

Then it will be marrying your cat or dog or horse or a fence post.

Take a little a bit at a time. Then you can say well if you can do that why can't you do this ?
