1336820 2013-04-18 03:40:00 Well said. Will your sister marry in a church?

I sure hope not... the CU at the Cadrona Speights Ale House in Mt Eden was the perfect Venue. My Sister was born in Otago so it's only fitting. Maybe we could do it at a more Waikato Location this time around for her Wife (being from Waikato).

To associate Same Sex Marriage with such things mentioned by fnphoto is downright f**ken wrong and disrespectful! I ask a mod at least mention a warning in regards to this .

Prefect - S . T F . U mate - considering you've already mentioned that you enjoy female homosexuality acts (between females - granted) puts you in the same shoes as the people that you're saying are wrong for sleeping with sheep/dead people!

And before ANY suggests I'm a member of the gay community - Wrong! Chill has met and I'm sure will approve of the looks (maybe not the personalities haha another topic all together) of some of my female partners . I'll also confess here I'm part of the same Church as him - granted from a different kind family and upbringing and we may interpret what we believe and read in regards to our shared religion differently .
I have mealy the decency and respect for all humans like anyone should have . My Sister is also in a Civil Union with her Wife at which we had an awesome party and are in the process of repeating the event in a form of Marriage! (Well I'm trying to convince her anyway because of the party at the reception!) .

It passed nothing you can do about it now (or even before lol) /thread

Well put . Least your not like most Christians I know that think all gays are bad people .

Impossible sorry.

Wife: A woman joined in marriage to a man and considered as his spouse. (Law) a man's partner in marriage; a married woman.

...with her partner maybe, but not wife.
Do you also call your sister the husband?

1336823 2013-04-18 05:06:00 I know this is a touchy subject but you *all* need to keep your cool about you, OK .

I would prefer this discussion remained civil rather than having to lock it and come out swinging the banhammer .

We are all entitled to our own different views, and thankfully that's one of the things they "fixed" about the law before they passed it, so that we can still legally continue to discuss same sex marriages . Not everybody has to agree, but both sides should still show some respect to those who don't share the same perspective as them

Fixed for you Mr PC .

BTW by your logic . . . If a Hetro couple get a Civil Union they cannot call each other Husband and Wife?

Surprisingly no. I'm not super enthusiastic about homosexuality, but I can't see any real reason why in a non-religious world they shouldn't be married.

There were a number of amendments prior to the law being passed which protected NZ'ers and their ability to still openly and candidly discuss their views on same-sex marriages, which protects all of NZ'ers right to freedom of speech, amongst other things, and while I'm not sure how well the clauses will protect things like celebrants, ministers and churches who don't want to marry same-sex couples because it goes against their religious views (Which they're entitled to), I think the steps were made to indicate that was the "spirit" of the law, even if it wasn't the exact letter of it.

Good on them though, and I hope this promotes more tolerance and acceptance within our country. It would seem it is sorely needed...
