1336590 2013-04-13 05:24:00 It doesn't answer your question, but I record set top box Freeview channels in two different ways. One way is to have a set top box that has a PVR function - you record to an external hard drive or USB key in my case, and then play back from the set top box. In my case, many functions are then missing that you take for granted with a DVD hard disk recorder. It is possible to connect the external hard drive/USB key to your PC and then use Handbrake to convert the resulting .ts files to .mp4 and then play them back on another TV.

The second and preferable way in my case is to use the set top box to create a digital tuner for the hard disk DVD recorder. That works fine.

1336592 2013-04-13 06:27:00 My STB hasn't got a USB connection so that option doesn't apply but you've given me plenty to think about and work on. Many thanks to everyone for your very constructive and helpful replies,

1336593 2013-04-13 06:44:00 Yes, you should be able to do this Willbry.

Take the analog output of the STB that you currently have going to AV2 in on the TV and stick it into the spare A/V inputs to the VCR.

Then plug the spare A/V outputs of the VCR into AV2 on the TV.

You are right that you will only be able to record the same channel you are watching.

1336594 2013-04-13 08:31:00 My STB has no USB connection so that possibility is a non-starter, but thanks to everyone for all the helpful replies. You've given me plenty to think about and to try out - much appreciated

1336595 2013-04-17 06:25:00 Hi dugimodo. your suggestion is the only one that has worked for me, that is by connecting 'MONITOR OUT" of the TV to "AV IN" of the VCR. I have to programme the VCR through Ch 8 then switch the TV over to AV2 and have the STB channel playing. As you say both STB & TV must be on as the programme is recording - a bit messy but at least it works. Thanks a lot,
