May be of some use to the techies in the future forum.hddguru.com I found a thread with info on resurrecting some HD's with a blown board, it was very helpfull. I got all the data off a 100% dead HD (this time) . :thumbs: |

Interesting, just browsing the first page to compare the issues with regard to Western Digital vs Seagate (currently cheaper brand), Seagate vastly outnumbers WD with issues. This might perhaps reflect their market share, or it might reflect their reliability. The WD issues are related to dropped drives (user error), lost passwords on encryptions (user error), lost partitions (possibly user error), whereas the Seagate stuff is full of hardware issues... think I known which brand I'd rather buy next time. |
