| 223549 | 2004-03-18 20:14:00 | Hi, I have Windows 2000 professional which has not been updated to any service pack as far as I can tell. I have updated to SP4 on more than one occasion, but each time, the communication to the internet stops functioning. This applies to both my dial-up modem & my ADSL router. Both of them will connect OK but nothing more. I have each time had to revert back to the original installation & then all is well again. Can anybody please help me. Thank you John Wright |

It can take a while but since you have ADSL it won't be too onerous. That might pick up a patch for that problem, alternatively you could noteyour connectivity setting (fastest way is to save a series of <print screen> shots do the update then look to see what has changed. I favour the former course, as you are guaranteed to update everything that is needed. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

If that is the case, it could be a setting within your permissions, Windows Update sometimes does strange things especially if it doesn't like your browser or perhaps firewall settings . Try downloading the file(s) from here ( . microsoft . com/windows2000/downloads/default . asp" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com) and install manualy . At least then you have the updates you need for installation if you need to reinstall the OS (burn to CD) Cheers Murray P |
