2004-03-18 08:12:00 | hi i am totally lost here, i have a site i use and it has a chat room option, as i have never used that before i thought id check it out, but it pops up saying as i am using Netscape Navigator ? i need a plug in.... is this an older name or version of Mozilla Firebird? its MSN site..... have just started using it never have at all before, always boycoted anything that looks big brand name to me..... Shoulda done that with MS too i think. i obviously have not been in the pc field long enough to know what it is talking about..... can someone explain to me? another chat prog i have does not have any probs with using Mozilla, but Chat f1 does i have been told, is this likely to happen with this one too? im not really sure this is clear but can any body guide me here? should i download this thing anyway? beetle

2004-03-18 21:59:00 | Beet first go to the plugin FAQ's Howto (plugindoc.mozdev.org) then go to the Mosdev org plugin site (plugindoc.mozdev.org) and look at/downlaod the MS ActiveX Portability Container for Netscape with MSN plugin. Apparently Jabba is a good chat program to have. Chat F1 works fine with my Firefox (Firebird) install. Cheers Murray P

2004-03-23 09:43:00 | Back again, MP need help again. Jabba? do you mean java? going to do some more sifting and see what i can find, as the link you gave me doesnt have a Jabba it has a Java. so maybe i have misunderstood again, just for a change? no hurry, as i havent got around to trying to download anything, so not worried about Chat yet. (on another site that is) and also Jen and Susan B have said not a good idea to try Chat F1 with Mozilla F but you say you have no probs???? not that i have been into Chat for ages or seen anyone there for ages either....do you have certain things set so this works ok? beetle

2004-03-23 12:24:00 | >Jabba? do you mean java? He means Jabber. Not much point in using that unless all your chat contacts also use it or are willing to be converted. ;-)

Hiya Beetle, I'm not familiar with the chat site you are trying to get access to so I don't know which plugin you are after . All I can say is that if it is anything like where I used to hang around you are going to have to use IE unfortunately . > cos then whats the point . . . . . . even though i love Mozilla i find it frustrating i cant access these sites with it . . . . grrrrrr . Unfortunately, much as we love these alternative browsers sometimes they just can't cut the mustard with all the places on the web that are specifically written for IE . It's no big deal to fire up IE just for those times when you have to so don't feel guilty about doing so . Just do it then go back to Firebird for everything else . :-) |

2004-04-03 09:42:00 | What Beetle is trying to do is connect to a chat room on a msn groups site - the online communities (like this) in which people can post messages and pictures, links etc . Each group has its own chat room that only members can access . The manager of the group gets to moderate the chat room . It's not an instant messenging program . Mozilla is recognised by msn as Netscape . They offer plug ins for Netscape, but not the Mozilla variant . You will also notice if you reply to a message using Mozilla you can't format your text etc . Use IE for msn groups, Beetle . I haven't managed to get Mozilla running in groups chat rooms, but then again I haven't tried that hard . . . J :D

2004-04-03 09:50:00 | Hello beetle Time for me to try & shade some light on this :D hehe :) > i have a NZ MSN site i want to be able to chat > on..... it still wont give me access to a download > for netscape and i cant find anything in MF FAQ 's? for Here are you talking about MSN chat: groups.msn.com Or chat.xtramsn.co.nz (which has now closed down) ??? If that is not it, could you give us a link to the place you mean, so we know where you are talking about? ( then we can tell you what plug in you might need) > can some one tell me am i on a losing battle here and > do i need to fire up IE for a chat to these people > the same as i have to for Chat F1???? Hmmm, like what Murray P, you should have no problems accessing chat F1 with Firefox (Firebird) but we can get to that latter on .
