| 224174 | 2004-03-21 22:31:00 | Jeez, I just don't know what's up with some of you guys. ?:| I started my internet experience with ClearNet but moved to Telecom/Xtra for Jetstream and have always been with Telecom for phones. I have occasionally had billing glitches, and Jetstream went down once when my access card at the exchange failed, but that was fixed promptly. I have found their staff unfailingly helpful and cooperative, they always put right their mistakes, and occasionally offer more than I ask or expect. Their prices are pretty much line-ball with anything else on the market, and the fundamental laws of economically-viable competition ensure that nobody ever tries to really undercut their pricing except for odd specials, which Telecom also provides from time to time. Sure unbundling the local loop would add competition, but only for a short period and then the whole lot would settle down to price-point marketing policies and they would all be exactly the same, apart from the colour of their logos. If you owned the infrastructure, would you unbundle it if you didn't have to? I suspect that if Telecom ever does agree to unbundle, or is forced to do so, prices will ultimately rise, not drop as Telecom then upgrades the local loop infrastructure and transfers deferred maintenance and development costs to all players in the market. And why shouldn't they? There is no reason for them to subsidise their competition, and I sure as hell wouldn't upgrade the loop now at my own expense if the writing was on the wall for unbundling. My response would be: "If you want to share my asset, you pay your share of its costs, now and in the future." The giving and receiving of service is a two way thing, and just as I have advised a number of times here on warranty matters, if you stick to the four P's (politeness, pleasantness, persistence and patience) you will often get more that you asked for in return. If the way some posters here write about Telecom reflects the tenor of their dealings with that company, IMHO they probably get what they deserve. Cheers Billy 8-{) :| |

| 224175 | 2004-03-21 22:33:00 | Hi all. Is it just Telecom everyone seems to be having problems with, or are others involved? We're in the process of signing up for 2 years with TelstraClear (2 years = no connection fee. Saves $200-odd). We expect to be set up in the next few weeks - it is our choice to wait that long because router needs to be purchased and ethernet card installed. I have to admit to being quite impressed when we called yesterday (Sunday). Call was answered within 5 minutes. When we explained what we wanted we got the extra TV channels instantly. Mostly rubbish TV, of course. I only want to be able to watch the Super12 matches live! It's all going to cost about $120/month for TV, cable internet and phone. | karent (5222) | ||

I am v interested in the Telstra 2 year offering. Keep us posted. But purchasing a router ? I thought you had to use the rental one. Cheers Tony |

| 224177 | 2004-03-22 00:28:00 | Hi all I too changed from my 128K Jet start plan to the new?? 256k 3 Gig plan. What is the new "FAST ADSL LOGINs " being referred to. I was not aware that anything had to be changed at the local end. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using Xta as my ISP. Cheers HH |

It's the modem you rent for (I think) $10.95/month. The router is an optional extra. You can buy them from about $130 or more. I believe it makes for a safer set-up. |

Paraside usage meter for my last period (calculated to be the same as the Telecom meter) shows 4.5GB of usage total. Telecoms meter shows over 17GB of usage. And this period only covers 3 weeks. They tried to tell me it was because of the difference in billing dates and the fact Paradise only charge 1/10 for national. Well I told them I already took into account the billing and the 1/10 national (of which I use very little). I have sent them the logs of usage and still waiting for the reply. As I previously said if I went on the 10GB unlimited I would be limited to 64K speed in a week which would not be worth the cost and effort of upgrading to the new plan. |

Are you in business on your own account? Sure doesn't sound like it. :| It's a hard commercial world, and there's no room for sentiment. Little guys always knock big guys, it is a form of *organ* envy, but mark my word PoWa, if you ever get to be a big guy your attitudes will change dramatically. In the meantime, stop winging and go start your own Telecoms company or ISP and give everyone somebody else to complain about. Cheers Billy 8-{) :D |

Infact, I totally fully completely wholeheartedly and beyond any measure of reasonable doubt agree with it. |
