2004-03-21 21:23:00 | Just to add on to this comment, I bought a Sony digicam earlier this year, with it's standard set of NiMH batteries (2x AA cells). They are very long lasting, as I can fill up a 64mb memory card with photos, and still have enough juice left to do it all over again. | somebody (208) | |

There are 2 main types, the AA battery which can use rechargable AA's also or the camera that requires a bit more juice and uses a lithium ion battery similair to the ones used in Video Cameras. |

2004-03-23 02:12:00 | Ok we have ordered a Fuji S5000. it is coming from Auckland and is cheaper with all the extra's than buying the same camera down here with no extra's. I got basic Camera.... Battery Charger, extra batteries, a Memory card, and a Bag. plus a Car charger..... plus freight and its still less. for less than the $999. that Harvey Norman and Noel Lemmings has advertised. will let you know when it arrives. and hopefully all is good in transit and no one has lost out on the sale...us or them. and Goddie....um you saying you are a Robust Chunky person or the type of action you see, while taking pics? James Bond the second???????? :D sorry to hijack thread. beetle

2004-03-23 05:23:00 | Nobody seems to have mentioned an eye level viewfinder. I find the lcd screen a pain in bright sunlight. Also holding the camera out at arms length to accommodate my aging vision and wobbly arms leads to one hell of a camera shake problem. I am a camera buff of yonks standing and find that an eye level finder not only allows you to see in bright sunlight but also the holding of the camera hard up against your forehead keeps it steady. Cheers. | heaton (3697) | |
2004-03-29 23:16:00 | I am pretty pleased with the Olympus I bought after reading the Consumer write ups. I would not have bought it otherwise - it just doesn't have the "chunky" look I really like. I bought From Pauls Camera in Christchurch who I found offered better prices than all the big advertisments I had been reading. And they are a small specialist shop too. Paul actually tried the camera out first to check it for me. I would have preferred standard batteries but I believe I can get spare ones OK. The case that came with it has a silky feel I don't like and the lens does not have an automatic cover like my old Leica did. I would not recomend it for absolute learners wanting a point and shoot device. The Olympus is very sophisticated and I have lots of learning to do. One thing that surprised me. Everybody says avioid digital zoom. Sorry I don 't agree. I tried mine and was amazed how good it is. OK you loose some pixels. So what - I invariably cut down on pixel content anyway so nothing is lost. An eye level viewfinder is absolutely essential. I rarely use the screen now and generally keep it turned off. Anyway happy shooting everybody.
