223843 2004-03-22 00:55:00 Mine arrived today in a shiny green packet. Very nice Microsoft. Also seems to be updated with patches to Feb 04 which is good as I thought it would only contain patches up till Dec 03. Must be the latest version.
Im not bothering with the firewall and antivirus as Sygate and InnocIT are working just fine. Direct X 9b included to which is handy as downloading over dialup is never fun.

223844 2004-03-22 01:17:00 Just got mine today. Haven't been able to get it to scan for updates on my machine. I keep getting an error message telling me I may not be an administrator (crap) or I may have answered "no" to an IE security warning dialogue (more crap). I have set my IE security options lower but still no go.

Anyone else got this problem (and solved it!)?

Can't say I am impressed so far, especially as I ordered this to save time updating client's machines!

223845 2004-03-22 05:25:00 You could try this list of cures, as far as I know in the end it always fixes the problem.

223846 2004-03-22 06:02:00 Thanks, zqwerty, but the error box is coming from the CD Update prog. My Windows update works just fine and always has. linw (53)

223848 2004-03-22 06:16:00 I saw the CD update a Win98SE computer from scratch today, it had no updates on it at all from original instal CD, no problems exhibited, everything worked like a dream. We went to the update site and only had to load two more updates. As has been said it is up-to-date to February this year. Mediaplayer 9 was added as was Outlook Express and IE6SP1. All we did was click a few OK's. Took about half hour on 266Mhz PentMMX. We sat there watching it with nothing much for us to do. Used it for three hours afterwards, so far no problems.

223849 2004-03-22 08:03:00 Thought I would try the new firewall only, uninstalled zone alarm as requested, and installed freebie.Actually it's only a 15 day trial, then you have to buy.
The program looks almost identical to zone alarm pro, which I thought it was at first.Even has same colours and interface. There are two preferences;full, with pop up blocker etc, and lite;all you get is the firewall.I opted for the full, while I'm on trial.
I'm on manual configuration,so I'm in for a few pop up requests from the firewall for a while, until it knows what I get up to.
I'll run it for the full trial period,so if there is anything I should be noticing about it please let me know.
See you in 15 days
Cheers

Hows that work Susan?

223851 2004-03-23 05:03:00 Just installed on my second comp - W98se - Pentium 3 450mhz - took 14 mins with no problems. Gave no choices on what it was installing, so now have IE6, was IE5.5, Media Player 9 & Direct X 9.0. Only use this rarely, but it appears harmless enough. The OS was original - no security updates at all. Will play with it and keep you informed.

223852 2004-03-23 05:49:00 Running '98SE, 4 year old Comp., Loaded and worked like a dream [1st disc only]. For 12 months I have had no WMP9, when loaded it always came up as 'Internal Application Error', all fixing attempts failed.
This 1st disc has apparently fixed all these problems somehow, and I now have a fully working WMP.
All credit to MS for getting it right for once.
