224041 2004-03-21 00:35:00 My problem is that on not using my pc for a couple of mins, on return the mouse has frozen, cannot Ctrl Alt Del to escape, nothing at all. Only way to recover is to use off button the on reboot go through scan disk because of imprpoer shutdown. As long as I am doing something all is well but when leaving for short time, it freezes. Specs are AMD K6 tm2 Proceeor, 256 MB ram, Win ME.
Have read several postings of mouse freezing problems, but nothing similar to my problem. Can anyone help.

224042 2004-03-21 00:42:00 what programs have you got running in the background ? tweak'e (174)
224043 2004-03-21 00:49:00 Hi tweak'e, only programs running are nortons, zone alarm and sysytem doctor, are these what you mean. Problem occours weather on or off line. Hard drive is 10gb, and only showing around 50% used. Earnie (3226)
224044 2004-03-21 00:58:00 system doctor can be a bit of a pain. i don't use it anymore.

is your antivirus upto date? give it a run. also check for spyware (adaware/spybot).

otherwise list what whats runing in background. go to system tools/system infomation/software/running tasks and post list here.

also check that screensavers are off and that power saving is off (power management).

224045 2004-03-21 01:14:00 check device manager fo rmouse probs .......even reinstall the mouse just in case........also check your 'power' settings drcspy (146)
224046 2004-03-21 01:31:00 NAV is up to date, scan shows no probs, no screensaver running, power options (control panel/power options) showing never, as for list of running tasks- there are 28 of them one, kernel 32dll, is there 4 times. Is there a way of pasting the list here rather than typing them all in individually? Origianal prob is not there all the time, seems to come and go, lasts for a few days then all is ok for a while. 224048 2004-03-21 05:09:00 Hi again tweak'e, could not find a quick way of doing this so here is the list, excuse any typing errors.
ddhelp .exe explorer.exe, helpctr.exe, iexplore.exe, kernel32.ddl, (x4) loadqm.exe, mprexe.exe, msimn.exe, mstask.exe, navapw32.exe, nprotect.exe, offprov.exe, pstores.exe, realsched.exe, rnaapp.exe, spool32.exe, ssdpsrv.exe, stmgrexe, swtray.exe, systray.exe, tapisrv.exe, taskmon.exe, vsmon.exe, winmgmt.exe, wmiexe.exe, zlclient.exe.
I done a disk defrag earlier as I seem to remenber that last time I did this, the problem dissapared for a while, and at the momement all seems well. Sorry bout the change of topic here, but is it normal for defrag to restart every 10% or so then carry on from where it got to after a couple of false starts?
Ta muchly for your time and assistance.

224049 2004-03-21 05:33:00 do your defrag in safe mode and disable the screen saver.........otherwise every program/screensaver/antivirus etc etc etc that is running on the system will cause defrag to continually restart when that program writes to the harddrive...........and so......it'll take many hours to defrag............do it in safe mode to avoid all this.....did you check the device manager for errors ? drcspy (146)
224050 2004-03-21 06:34:00 offprov.exe came up a few times as a suspicous file/virus on Google but MS say that it is part of Publisher 2000. Do you have that program?

For mprexe.exe I have found the following:
WIN32 Network Service Interface Process. MPREXE.exe enables the computer to have multiple clients/protocols for networks. There are some problems with it sometimes though. Note - why some people have it listed in start-up programs I don't know but I was asked to include it here. It automatically runs in the background. NOTE : sometimes it will appear in start-ups if you have a virus.

Try disabling that one and see if that improves things.

I don't have time to check anything else at the moment but go to this site (www.pacs-portal.co.uk) and find the entries in your list to see whether you can disable them or not.
