| 223781 | 2004-03-20 00:44:00 | Hi Folks. Somewhere down the track I have crapped on my system. XP Pro. I partitioned a drive in to four sections and installed the old drive as a backup. All Okay so far. However, drive (H) is a DVD writer and drive (I) is a CD writer. Neither will read an CD's. Drive (H) simply freezes - mouse Insertion Point, etc., and I have to reboot. Drive (I) actually shuts the system down when a CD is installed. Power seems okay, drawers open and close. Any thoughts before I uninstall them and start again? | Scouse (83) | ||

On reboot it should re-detect them. You can configure the drive letters to what you want in Disk Management. Right click on My Comp and select Manage. |

| 223783 | 2004-03-20 03:33:00 | Hi PoWa. Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, I ran through that routine. On re-boot system detected new hardware, etc and and despite both drives spinning I ended up with the same result. Even physically removed and replaced the drives. No joy. | Scouse (83) | ||
| 223784 | 2004-03-27 00:53:00 | Hi Powa. Eventually ran out of ideas and reinstalled Windows. Time consuming but seems to have worked. Both CD and DVD drives respond now. Thanks for your help. | Scouse (83) | ||
