223748 2004-03-19 22:47:00 Hi,
After recent PC Crash, a (anonymous for time being) PC Shop installed new motherboard, after which USB devices were not recognized. In Device Manager, there was a warning that USB 2.0 was not working. Old motherboard was not USB2 Capable. PC is running XP-Pro. Was advised to download drivers from MSI site, but information on site was to download XP SP1(a). I did, as well as another fix for USB. But no good still. The warning had disappeared for USB2.0 - in fact there was no mention at all about USB 2 in device manager - the other USB devices were 'working'with correct version of Drivers - but still camera and scanner are not recognised when plugged in. (I had noted at one point that the Universal Plug'n'Play Service had been stopped - but since started and PC rebooted)
What am I missing ??

when doing motherboard swaps its best to reinstall OS. also make sure all usb optoins are on in the bios before install.

223751 2004-03-20 00:09:00 well with xp you'll have a big job to get it working after changing the mobo.........that's a serious change of hardware and xp is likely to thow a bit of a hissy fit when you restart......including wanting to be re-activated...... drcspy (146)
223752 2004-03-20 23:00:00 Had a look at BIOS settings. (stupid question alert...) Should USB Legacy Support be enabled ?

ALso under 'PNP/PCI Config" the PCI IDE Busmaster was disabled

223753 2004-03-20 23:19:00 just try the 'default' bios settings first drcspy (146)
223754 2004-03-21 05:10:00 It's not what you are missing. It's what the PC Shop is missing. They were paid to fix it. They didn't fix it. What are they going to do about it? Graham L (2)
