2004-03-22 21:13:00 | Well, managed to get back to Xandros again. I thought I try installing IE through Crossover Office Setup to see if the browser header fonts were bigger than in Mozilla, a problem which incidently I havent been able to rectify, despite the help given in other postings and the link posted by Jen C. IE 6 installed, but oddly the fonts at the page top, drop down boxes etc were just as small as in Mozilla, ie microfont. Not only that but IE was also unstable, in as much as lockups were encountered when changing things in 'View'. So I thought Ok, lets uninstall it. But it does the same silly nonsense as in Windows, a box comes up saying that IE 6 can be un-installed to leave the previous version, but of course there isnt a previous version. The long and the short of it, is that IE6 is now stuck in Xandros. Before I use strong arm tactics like deleting the fake windows and fake program files folders, is there any advice from Linux gurus as to what else should be looked into to remove, like IE entries in a Linux equivalent registry?? :)

2004-03-23 01:39:00 | Terry: have a look at the Preferences/Fonts page and alter the font for "Applications" . I presume Xandros is like RH and has an icon at the left of the main launchbar (MS "Start" ;-)), which will get you a Preferences group (that's what it's called in Gnome ... I suppose it will be similar in KDE). | Graham L (2) | |

2004-03-24 20:38:00 | The only way I could find to remove IE6 was to uninstall Crossover, delete left-over Crossover folders, then re-install Crossover, a bit messy as one or two MS apps then had to be re-loaded, and I couldnt get MS Solitaire installed this time :) Graham: Xandros doesnt appear to have a Preferences Group or associated icon. I found Kcontrol to install as a Debian application, but again it doesnt appear to be in the Xandros Networks apps installation facility.

2004-03-24 21:40:00 | kcontrol is part of KDE! Ive used Xandros, its there, just run it from a konsole or the Run Box. Chill.

2004-03-25 00:33:00 | If you run kcontrol from the Console or Run command, it brings up Control Centre Terry. So I guess it is another one of those things where the Xandros designers have decided to hide the name and call it something descriptive. But I am sure you are right. I have altered everything I can find, and all I can change is the font size in actual browser pages. Nothing seems to change the Mozilla application font for menus etc. On my laptop 10.6 inch screen they are minute! Let us know if you find a solution other than changing to a different browser because I like Mozilla. John

I wasn't game to do the strong arm thing and delete the Windows folder, so I followed your method by using Xandros Networks, then got rid of the left over folders and reinstalled Crossover . The latter isn't exactly intuitive is it? You have to go to Xandros Networks again, and Set Application Sources to the CD drive, then install from there . Not what I am used to! But I now have a clean Xandros system unsullied by those appalling Doze application leftovers ;-) John |

2004-03-25 02:52:00 | I notice now that .exe files do not carry the Crossover icon, whereas I am sure that they did when I originally installed Xandros. What have you got Terry? | John H (8) | |
