224253 2004-03-21 22:46:00 Hi,
last week I was asked to upgrade my Adobe v6- and also try out Photoshop v2 .
I did as asked- but found version 2 was little more than useless- it will only resize a photo - no other ability at all - as compared to Photoshop v7- which I had installed on my W 98 h/d many moons ago.
This version is remarkably useful- though no doubt now out of date.

I then tried to install the same version in my ( dual boot) XP harddrive- it will load up the CD Rom but freezes after about three steps into the install.
I tried to "copy"the program fron W 98 and paste direct to XP but get told that critical information was not available.

It is still working in 98 but in the W 98 set up,it does not recognize the XP hardrive which is also in the same computer ( - it does in the reverse process- XP shows W 98 h/d)
Any comments?

Asked by who? Adobe?

Did you expect a very old version (V2) to be better than a much later version (v7)?

What "same version"? V2 or V7?

We have covered this scenario before, you cannot/must not copy over program files and expect them to work. They must be installed, not copied. Its easy to trash the OS that way in some cases.

Is XP using NTFS or FAT32?
98 cannot recognise NTFS. XP recognises both.

Only a question why you would try loading a very old version of software over the top of a later version, and expect it to go well?
Otherwise, I am simply confused...

224255 2004-03-22 05:06:00 Hi Godfather
Yes I assumed the upgrade came from Adobe as I am using v 6 - currently - looks like I was wrong.
V2 was a teaser- whereas v7 is the full monte- registration and all- I would have thought that I could have installed such in XP- and ignore the teaser.
Yes you have discussed copying Scrabble from W 98 BUT it worked- then when I had a flutter - I deleted the copy and re installed it off the CD and still had flutter- so deleted all reference to Scrabble on XP( Smithie 38 installed the Scrabble on his XP and it works perfectly)
I accept that I was pushing my luck in the photoshop pro but in the light of the above - it might have worked- .

Fat32 and NTFS - now that answers my query - that I did not know.

Don't think I am loading an old version over the top of a new one- I even cleaned the registry of any photoshop program but still had the "old CD install" freeze in a so called virgin install on XP

224256 2004-03-22 06:15:00 Very simple programs dont involve the registry, and these can copy and paste to another PC .
They are few and far between nowdays, but things like scrabble probably are among them .

When the registry is not involved, its not a problem . When it is, you need to be very cautious . If in doubt, don't do it .

I am still concerned though .

Its not credible that they would upgrade Photoshop from Version 6 and call it version 2 .

What you were seeing I believe is "Photoshop Album Version 2" which is NOT Photoshop (the image editing program) .

Different horses .
Different courses .
A totally different program with a different purpose in life .

224258 2004-03-22 10:31:00 Seeing as he downloads that shareware game every month to avoid a five dollar registration fee i doubt he has a $1500 dollar copy of Photoshop CS to play around with metla (154)
