224302 2004-03-23 04:12:00 thats the problem with any survey including pcworld awards.

people often vote for the one they have which may not always be the best one. i would be more interest in WHY its the best/worse one.

as for my vote.........Paradise. fairly reliable, price is ok. only major problem was when they joined with clear. support staff are ok.

have run xtra without any real problems (dns server packs up now and then). support .....fairly basic. ihug ok tho support at times is horrid.

224303 2004-03-23 04:26:00 Tell me.I have not talked to an isp or staff that has horrrible horrible support. What kind of horribe suppor that they give? yingxuan (3330)
224304 2004-03-23 04:54:00 Voyager still runs commercial services in this country, but it was bought out by an Australian/US firm which closed the domestic part of their service - about December 2002 - or thereabouts. Sami (667)
224305 2004-03-23 05:39:00 No. I actually changed from IHUG to Clear and then to Paradise with a Saturn package. Pato (2463)
224306 2004-03-23 07:20:00 I would say Xtra for there speed but its sooo unstable so Sling Shot cheap too. Gods-Hitman (1419)
224307 2004-03-23 09:41:00 I have been with Slingshot from the start and have a very satisfactory time. They are cheap, reliable and I am prepared to put up with a helpdesk that has a 24 hour delay because my problems have been minimal. BernieL (1913)
224308 2004-03-23 09:52:00 Ok
i have used more than one ISP

i to have used Clear, (original Work usage) and had lots of custard experience with them, so went back to Xtra.

had no probs so have stuck with xtra.
no major reason except its easier, as then i dont have to rock the boat, no new password, loggin etc crap.

but if i ever move house, from here i will look at cheaper options then, Business related now so not a worry.

Pretty much though the service is provided through Telecom, not Xtra. (yup apparently they are separate)

Basically economics means it isn't feasible for an ISP tp have their own gear in every town and city etc (which of course brings us to the great LLU debate).

So the 0867 family of dial-up numbers was introduced, in free calling areas where ISP's have their own kit they automatically connect the calling computer to that equipment.

If outside one of these areas, they connect to the beast known as IPNet (0873 numbers) which connects to Telecom hardware which then pushes all the requests for authentication, IP addresses, bandwidth and e-mail etc back to the ISP in question via radius proxies and all sorts of other witchcraft.

Make sense? Above is a pretty rough explanation - and oversimplified.

The only other ISP I've used was Zfree. It was alright, but it was never a serious contender for my Ihug account, which I kept active.
